They have a sense of urgency, and they are always looking for ways to improve.

Becoming an agile leader is not an easy task. It requires the commitment of a lifetime. To become effective, agile leaders must be willing to learn, adapt, and change.

Agile Leaders concentrate on building a common understanding and purpose. There is a vision of change that is meaningful and applicable to the organization.  The work of the Agile Leader is to be aware of what is in the hearts and minds of their coworkers, and then align those values into inspired action.

  •  Creativity and Innovation through Emotions

Agile Leaders uplift others to bring their best selves to their work.  They understand that emotion is an important part of the human experience, and when individuals work with their emotions, they perform better. Agile Leader encourages creativity and innovation by being accessible, open, honest, and transparent whilst expecting the same from others.

  •  Encourage your coworkers to make decisions

Realizing the leadership potential of all its individuals helps accelerate the organization’s capacity to learn and adapt. The job of an Agile Leader is to develop depth in the organization’s leadership capability by providing opportunities for their people to lead. Mentoring tomorrow’s leaders in the principles and practices of servant leadership sow the seeds for the Agile culture to prosper.

  • Build collaborative communities 

Agile Leaders build communities based on trust, respect, and meaningful working relationships. Their role is to provide those communities with all that they need to operate efficiently but then to let them function autonomously. The Agile Leader understands that forgiveness, positivity, generosity, and appreciation are important parts of a healthy working environment. The healthy functioning of the group with the conservation of psychological safety allows the Agile Leader to encourage learning and development while also balancing sustained outcomes and performance for the benefit of the organization.

  • Best Ideas come from the organization

People who are close to a problem usually have the best ideas about how to solve it. Agile Leaders should be open to the influence and ideas of others, regardless of their status or position. To this end, the Agile Leader stops, listens, and gives time to really hear the opinions and ideas for improvement of their coworkers. Even if some ideas are not used, the Agile Leader encourages a constant flow of creativity by helping people to understand which ideas were useful and which were not.

Paths to improve as an agile leader.

There are three key areas that you need to focus on in order to become an agile leader. These skills will help you grow as an agile leader.

  • Learn Agile Processes

An Agile Leader should be aware of agile processes to fully understand the benefits of agile, not only they should learn agile processes they should also share their understanding of agile with their coworkers.

  • Build and maintain relationships with people you work with

An Agile Leader understands the importance of people and is aware that people are the most important assets, they should take time and be open with their coworkers. An agile leader should make an effort to understand the people they work with.

  • Be Open to Change 

Flexibility will improve your leadership skills rapidly, change is hard but an Agile Leader must get comfortable with being uncomfortable, keep experimenting with different methods, and get guidance and improvement from those missteps.

  • Know yourself

Knowing your strengths and weaknesses will help you distinguish between what you’re good at and where you should focus more, knowing your strengths will encourage you to use them appropriately, and knowing your weaknesses will help you in improving on them by experimenting.
